Update on Point Henry's Carbon Bake Upgrade

As previously reported Alcoa Point Henry’s $89m carbon bake upgrade was completed on schedule and commissioning commenced on 2 November.

On Thursday 6th December an unplanned scrubber outage occurred between 12.55pm and 9:50pm.
The scrubber was placed into bypass by Alcoa operations staff due to an alumina spill from airslides exiting the filter. A number of issues occurred to cause this situation and corrective actions have been taken to address all of the areas of concern.
An investigation is currently underway to ensure that all of the issues have been completely resolved. The Victorian EPA has been advised of this matter. Commissioning of the carbon bakes is expected to be completed by the end of February 2008.
