Update on Point Henry’s Carbon Bake Upgrade

As previously reported Alcoa Point Henry’s $89m carbon bake upgrade was completed on schedule and commissioning commenced on 2 November.

As we enter the third week of commissioning, all four fires in the bakes area are now in full operation. On Thursday 22nd November a planned scrubber outage for between 8.00am and 2.00pm experienced an unplanned 4hr 9min extension. The outage was planned to improve the reliability of the atomising air spray skid, which has previously faulted and put the scrubber into by-pass, to modify the cooling tower air supply and flow meters and to repair the alumina transfer vessel valve V710. Whilst this work was being carried out, the transfer vessel was found to have significantly more wear than initially anticipated which resulted in the extended outage. The Victorian EPA has been advised of this matter. For further information contact: Joanne Forssman Community Relations Officer Alcoa Point Henry Ph: 0404 800 737
