Update on Point Henry’s Carbon Bake Upgrade

As previously reported Alcoa Point Henry’s $89m carbon bake upgrade was completed on schedule and commissioning commenced on 2 November.

As we enter the third week of commissioning, all four fires in the bakes area are now in full operation. On Tuesday 20th November, the scrubber went into bypass for 9 minutes as a result of the cooling tower outlet temperature falling below 85 deg C due to atomising air fluctuations. Appropriate corrective actions are underway, with key improvements planned for the outage detailed below. On Thursday 22nd November, a planned scrubber outage will take place between 8.00am and 2.00pm. This outage is needed to improve the reliability of the atomising air spray skid, which has previously faulted and put the scrubber into by-pass. The Victorian EPA has been advised of each of these matters. For further information contact: Joanne Forssman Community Relations Officer Alcoa Point Henry Ph: 0404 800 737
