Carbon Bake Upgrade
Cransberg Says
November 7, 2007

Update on Point Henry’s Carbon Bake Upgrade

As previously reported Alcoa Point Henry’s $89m carbon bake upgrade was completed on schedule and commissioning commenced on 2 November.

During the first week of commissioning two of the four fires in the new furnace have been in operation to gradually heat up and cure the new refractory.

The third fire is expected to start today with the fourth fire starting tomorrow.

The computer control programs have been monitored and modified to ensure good control.

On Thursday 8th November, the scrubber went into bypass for 16 minutes due to a faulty air control value.

No volatiles are expected to have been released.

This issue was rectified immediately and the valve will be replaced on Friday 9th November.

The Victorian EPA has been advised of this matter.
