Alcoa Development Consent granted

The New South Wales Land and Environment Court on 29 August 2007 granted consent to a Development Application lodged by Alcoa Australia Rolled Products Yennora for its existing operations.
The new Development Consent does not propose to expand the Yennora operations and went before the court with the support of Holroyd City Council.
Alcoa chose to apply for an upgraded Development Consent with stricter environmental conditions following a legal challenge by competitor Weston Aluminium of the existing Development Consent.
The Supreme Court of the New South Wales’ Court of Appeal found on 4 October 2006 that Alcoa Australia Rolled Products has always operated within its original Development Consent.
Weston Aluminium is appealing the decision in the High Court.
“We have always operated, and will always operate, within the law and in an open and transparent manner,” Yennora Location Manager Mr John Costley said.
“The new Development Consent will provide more clarity around our operations, and help us continue our focus on operating in an environmentally and socially sustainable manner.”
