Anglesea Primary School will soon expand its student wellbeing program and offer more innovative activities thanks to a $32,000 donation from the Alcoa Foundation.

Working in partnership with the Alcoa Foundation, Anglesea Primary School today (Thursday March 15) announced plans to expand the wellbeing program to help further improve the welfare of all students. Anglesea Primary School Principal Pamela Sandlant said the school had established a range of wellbeing programs specifically targeting older students, however, had recently identified the need to increase and expand specific programs to more year levels. “Anglesea Primary School wants to give its students the best academic, social and emotional start to their education and produce an active and contributing next generation for the town,” Mrs Sandlant said. “The student wellbeing program aims to assist children and enable them to achieve the best learning and life outcomes that they possibly can. The program will cover areas such as boys in education, personal and emotional resilience, respect for diversity, self esteem and general wellbeing.” Mrs Sandlant said outcomes achieved and learnings gained through the student program would be shared with other schools in the South-West Barwon Region to improve local knowledge and access to programs. Alcoa Anglesea Community Relations Officer Anthea Doran said Alcoa was committed to building stronger communities in the areas where it operated and was therefore pleased to assist Anglesea Primary School in expanding vital resources for its children. “As part of Alcoa’s support of the expansion of the program Alcoa employees will also volunteer their time and help out with activities and workshops where possible,” “This new support will also help build on the proud and long-standing partnership between Alcoa and the Anglesea Primary School” Ms Doran said. Alcoa Foundation is a global resource that actively invests in the quality of life in Alcoa communities worldwide. With more than $410 million invested since our inception in 1952, Alcoa Foundation has positioned itself as a source of positive community change and enhancement. Out of that legacy has emerged a set of strengths and competencies that reflect community aspirations and needs around the world. In 2006, Alcoa Foundation made over $26 million in grants around the world in 215 communities.
