Alcoa and Geelong community organisations celebrate partnerships and $500,000 distributed to local community programs in 2006

Alcoa Point Henry’s ‘Partnering Stronger Communities’ program has provided about $500,000 to 120 local not-for-profit organisations in 2006 while employees volunteered about 9000 hours on community projects in the Geelong region.

To celebrate the series of community milestones, Alcoa employees and representatives from community organisations will come together at an end of year celebration tonight (Tuesday November 28) at the Geelong Performing Arts Centre at 5.30pm.

Former Victorian Premier Joan Kirner, Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Committee for Victorian Communities, will present a special talk at the community partnership celebration, informing guests on the features of successful community partnerships and their importance in local communities.

Alcoa Point Henry Acting Smelter Operations Manager Stewart Esdale said Alcoa was committed to partnering stronger communities and making the communities in which it operates stronger and more sustainable.

“Alcoa aspires to be the best company in the world and to be the best company in the world we must first be the best company in our community. Therefore it is imperative that we work with the communities in which we operate to build a stronger community - economically, socially and environmentally,” Mr Esdale said.

“Our employees also proved once again in 2006 why they are Alcoa’s valuable asset by volunteering 9000 hours to local community projects.”
