Ever wanted to take a look inside one of WA’s largest manufacturing operations? Here’s your chance. Alcoa’s Wagerup alumina refinery and Willowdale bauxite mine will be opening their gates to the community on Sunday 23 October 2005.

This free Open Day will include loads of entertainment, activities and giveaways at the Wagerup refinery and the Willowdale mine from 10:00am – 3:30pm.
Wagerup refinery manager Bill Knight said the Open Day would be a great opportunity for the public to gain an understanding about Alcoa's operations, while enjoying a fun family day out.
"Last year's Wagerup Open Day was a huge success with over 1000 people visiting the site. We hope that this year's combined event will be even better," Mr Knight said.
“Bring the family along to find out more about the alumina refining process at the Wagerup refinery, climb on a haul truck at the Willowdale mine or take one of the popular bus tours of the refinery, mining and farmlands operations.”
Alcoa representatives will be on hand to talk about the mining and refining processes as well as the proposed expansion of the Wagerup refinery. There will also be displays from suppliers and community partners including Greening Australia, HATCH engineering and the Chamber of Minerals and Energy.
And for only a gold coin donation you will be able to enjoy refreshments, sausage sizzles and Devonshire teas provided by local community groups.
A shuttle bus will be running between the refinery and mine throughout the day. Parking will be available at the Wagerup refinery, South West Highway, Wagerup.
