Alcoa employees Annette Brown, Bianca Underwood and Dave Eckersley were among a group of eight volunteers who assisted the Harvey Community Kitchen by helping build a new concrete path and making the community group eligible for a $3,000 Alcoa ACTION grant.

Alcoa’s ACTION Program is this year supporting 48 employee volunteering activities in communities close to the company’s Western Australian operations. Most will occur in the Kwinana, Peel and South West areas, where Alcoa’s bauxite mining and alumina refineries are located.

Nearly 400 Alcoa employees will be involved, volunteering for at least 1500 hours. In recognition of its employees’ volunteering efforts, Alcoa will donate a total of $144,000 to associated community organisations in these communities.

The volunteering activities range from busy bees at schools, sporting clubs and local charities through to assisting with community events and fundraising for not-for-profit services.

Alcoa of Australia Chairman and Managing Director Michael Parker thanked the employees involved in the volunteering activities saying it was proof that together we could make a big difference.

“Alcoa is proud to be an engaged and supportive partner in our neighbouring communities and we encourage and support our employees to also be active community members,” Mr Parker said.

Alcoa has a proud history of helping build stronger sustainable communities that have the capacity to address local challenges and opportunities. It makes about $3.6 million in community contributions each year.

In addition, Alcoa employees generously support the community through the Personnel Employed at Alcoa Charity Help (PEACH) Program. Employees can elect to make donations straight from their pay that are then distributed to community and charitable activities.
