Fire at Anglesea Power Station

10pm, February 7 2018

At approximately 2.30pm this afternoon a fire started in the decommissioned condenser unit at Alcoa’s closed Anglesea power station.

Country Fire Authority (CFA) crews responded to the fire. At approximately 8:00pm the CFA reported that the incident status was safe and they have left the site. The area will be actively monitored overnight by site personnel.

All personnel are accounted for and there were no reported injuries.

The CFA reported that there was no threat to the community.

The fire was not in the vicinity of the former mine and there was no impact on vegetation.

The Alcoa power station closed in 2015 and is currently being decommissioned.

Alcoa thanks the CFA for its high level of professionalism and support responding to this event.
