month of service – thank you

Wow, Alcoa’s Month of Service never ceases to amaze me! Our people just get out there into the community and make such a difference to so many organisations and individuals. What our people did in hours as crews, teams and families would have taken many organisations weeks, months or in some instances may never have even got off the ground.

Through the leadership, teamwork and the creativity of our employees we achieved record-breaking participation this year – adding value to our communities and to our business. A remarkable 56% of our global workforce made a difference in their community during October – exceeding the target 54% global participation rate. More than 31,000 Alcoa employees across 24 countries volunteered in some 2,000 events.

Through our Month of Service experiences many employees, including myself, now have a greater awareness of the breadth and depth of Australia’s social and environmental issues. Along the way we met dedicated volunteers who give their time to community organisations all year round, on amazing projects. So to you and to them I say thank you.

make your voice heard...alcoa community survey

As we prepare for the year ahead, we are reviewing all areas of our business to assess how we have performed during the year and where we need to close gaps. We invite you to be part of this assessment by completing a short survey about Alcoa in Australia. The survey seeks your input on your community needs and asks for ideas on how we can partner with you to fulfil these needs, as well as getting your feedback on other aspects of our operations across Australia.

If you can find time, we’d really appreciate your feedback - please click here to take the survey. It’ll take around ten minutes of your time.

alcoa foundation grants for 2012

We are thrilled to announce seven new grants from the Alcoa Foundation in 2012 with Planet Ark, Barwon Regional Waste Management Group, South West Regional Waste Management, Youth Focus, Scitech, Millennium Kids and WA Museum. These partnerships reflect the Foundation’s shift towards its two new focus areas of education and environment. We will be highlighting these partnerships throughout the year.
into 2012

And finally, as we race towards the festive season, another year end and the hot summer months ahead of us I encourage you all to be mindful of your own health and well being. At this time of year many people travel to be with their family and friends, so please take the time to enjoy the journey and arrive safely.

I wish you and your loved ones all the very best for a safe and happy festive season and I look forward to another great year in 2012.
