message from alan cransberg, managing director, alcoa of australia
This month we take pleasure in the launch of our 2009 Sustainability Report. 2009 was undoubtedly one of Alcoa of Australia’s most interesting years to date and, in reflection, what unquestionably stood out to me was the commitment of our people, not only within the business but towards their communities too. In keeping with the sustainability theme, the report has been released online only for the third consecutive year. To get a full picture of our management of key issues including climate change, energy efficiency, environmental and economic custodianship, and detail of engagement with local communities, please do visit www.alcoa.com.au/sustainability. You can download a pdf.
Alcoa Inc has announced the global company’s Q2 results, with income from continuing operations of $137 million, compared with a Q1 2010 loss of $194 million. Sales were 6% higher on stronger volume, and overall we are tracking positively toward our cash sustainability goals for 2010.
You may be aware by now that I’m taking over as Chairman of the West Coast Eagles at the end of October. To help my work/ life balance, given the hours I continue to commit to Alcoa, I will come off three of the five Boards I am currently on to ensure I get enough time with my family while satisfying the increased responsibility at the Eagles. Thanks for all the well wishes on my appointment.
