March has been a landmark month for us - we signed new base-load electricity contracts to power our Victorian smelters for 20 years (Point Henry: 2014 onwards, Portland: 2016 onwards) and in so doing offered a sense of security to our communities and our employees.  This type of energy security is critical for aluminium smelters and these new contracts with Loy Yang Power provide a platform for our future investment in regional Victoria. We also signed a carbon reduction agreement with Loy Yang – we remain committed to working towards a low carbon future even though Victoria as a State remains dependant on brown coal for base load power at this time. This month we’ve facilitated around 1500 school kids to work with artists from Sculpture by the Sea in Perth. We’ve supported this exhibition since it came over from the east coast six years ago, and I am passionate about the ‘Alcoa School Education Program’ that offers primary and high school kids a unique opportunity to connect with art in a beautiful setting. I believe schools are at the heart of our communities, and it is all of our responsibility to help educate the future generation.  Read more at www.alcoa.com.au/schools.
