message from alan cransberg, managing director, alcoa of australia

What a year. The world in economic meltdown but looking healthier by the end of the year; metal and alumina prices slumping by 60% then recovering a little; the value of the Australian dollar working against us by rising above 90 US cents; the emissions trading scheme debate raging on; and the list goes on.  We’ve won nine awards, impacted hundreds of community organisations with our volunteering, and seen record production levels at most sites across Australia.  I look forward to the triumphs and challenges of 2010 - we have a lot to do, but a great team to get it done.

We’ve in fact won five awards in the past month alone – an employer of choice award, a WA environment award and three awards recognising the mine site rehabilitation work that our very own nursery undertakes. Read more.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you for your much valued ongoing support of Alcoa in 2009. I’ll keep you updated about our business and our communities in the year ahead. As always, I look forward to your important feedback throughout 2010. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
