Alcoa has long recognised climate change as the key sustainability issue of our time, adopting a global leadership position to finding solutions to reduce emissions through technology, through partnerships, and through people.

We have been very successful in reducing emissions from our operations, and we are extending this to our communities. Last week, our 27 year sustainability partnership with Greening Australia saw the official launch of Breathe Easy. Alcoa is the foundation partner of this leading edge program that enables individuals to offset their carbon emissions. It works in with our Make an Impact program, both designed to empower our people and our communities to think and act differently in a carbon constrained world. Read more.

Being involved with organisations like Greening Australia is a key part of Alcoa’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy and with today’s economic challenges, CSR has never been more important. I strongly believe that if anything good can come out of the global financial crisis it is that a true union of economic, social and environmental goals will be forged. Government, business and the community must take a longer term view of what is right. I look forward to more discussion on this topic in the coming months.
