Partnering Stronger Communities
Yennora’s partnerships can be formed under any of the five Partnering Stronger Communities pillars which are:
- Safe and Healthy Children and Families
- Future Leaders of Industry
- Arts for Everyone
- Conservation and Sustainability
- Sustainable Communities
SAFE AND HEALTHY CHILDREN AND FAMILIES The Safe and Healthy Children and Families pillar focuses on programs, activities and events that increase people’s ability to be safer, healthier and more active members of the community. Kids Foundation The KIDS Foundation and Alcoa Australia Rolled Products share a common goal in injury prevention and both hold safety as a core value. The KIDS Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to childhood injury prevention and recovery including delivering quality safety education programs and services in schools. The partnership between KIDS Foundation, Alcoa Foundation and Alcoa Australia Rolled Products began in 2006 and supports KIDS Foundation’s nationally recognised KIDS Safety Club school safety program, Injury Free Day and SeeMore's Challenge. Visit the KID Foundation website FUTURE LEADERS OF INDUSTRY This pillar will ensure young people get the development opportunities they need to become future leaders. By doing this, communities will be strengthened and businesses such as Alcoa will be able to employ skilled young people who are ready to add value. The University of NSW Co-op Program The UNSW Co-op Program is a scholarship program set up by industry and the University of New South Wales for selected undergraduate students. The Yennora site provides one to two tax-free UNSW Co-op Program scholarships of $15,000 per annum to metallurgy students who also receive structured industrial training. ARTS FOR EVERYONE Arts for Everyone contributes to Alcoa’s commitment to supporting rich and diverse workforces and communities. This partnership field aims to encourage young people to engage in arts and music by supporting exhibitions, performances, workshops and training opportunities. ArtsWest ArtsWest is a community based arts organisation that promotes, supports and lobbies for arts and cultural activities in Western Sydney, and aims to enrich local communities through business engagement with the arts. Through the Alcoa Foundation, Alcoa has supported local artist exhibitions curated by ArtsWest at the annual Lunar New Year business and cultural showcase event. CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY The Conservation and Environment pillar further demonstrates Alcoa’s commitment to environmental issues, through active partnerships in the local community. Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Keep Australia Beautiful NSW delivers a range of programs which encourage and celebrate the environmental efforts of individuals and communities all around the state. Alcoa has partnered with Keep Australia Beautiful NSW’s Sustainable Cities, Clean Beach Challenge and Waste Watchers programs to help ensure better resource management, less litter and waste and more sustainable communities. Visit the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW website SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES This pillar demonstrates our commitment to the communities where we operate. Sustainable Communities will see Alcoa partner with local community groups in a way that allows each group, the wider community and our business to become stronger. Timehelp The Timehelp/Alcoa partnership provides an opportunity for seniors from the local area site to volunteer in the local community, contributing to Alcoa’s goal of building stronger, more sustainable communities. Seniors volunteer in schools across the Western Sydney region assisting with a variety of activities including reading and craft and cooking classes, ensuring that their unique skills are not lost for the community.
