At Alcoa, scientists are essential to the successful running of our business. Job roles for scientists within Alcoa include, but are not limited to:

  • Environmental Scientists;
  • Geologists;
  • Industrial Hygienists;
  • Laboratory Analysts;
  • Horticulturalists; and
  • Surveyors.

Alcoa’s Environmental Scientists make sure that our mining and processing operations are carried out in a responsible manner, to the world’s best standards.

Our Chemists focus on the chemical and physical properties of substances and help develop new mineral processing techniques.
Alcoa’s global alumina refining Research and Development team (the Technology Delivery Group) is based at Kwinana Refinery. There, new and exciting discoveries related to the alumina business are just waiting to be made.

As long as there are minerals to be mined, the resources industry will need scientists.

A basic science degree usually takes at least three years to complete at university.  More specialised courses take longer.
