Pinjarra Office
In early 2005 Alcoa announced plans to establish a new office in Pinjarra as part of major changes to its corporate head quarters at Booragoon. The new state-of-the-art facility will have capacity for 100 employees from Alcoa’s key business support services, including procurement, operations management, finance and human resource services. The custom built facility will also consolidate the region as a ‘centre of excellence’ for the alumina industry globally. Alcoa, in partnership with owner and developer Pindan and designers Hames Sharley, is keen to demonstrate our commitment to the region and to Western Australia by locating essential support services close to our operational centres. The benefits to the local community and the Peel region as a result of moving our business support functions to Pinjarra are many, including:
- Increased local expenditure;
- Employment opportunities associated with office construction;
- Ongoing business and employment opportunities into the future;
- Community building through more people living and working locally; and
- Improved communications, relationships and engagement with local communities.
Eco-sustainability considerations have been incorporated into the new building’s design. Already the new building design has received a 4 star Australian Business Greenhouse Rating. This is Australian best practice for energy efficiency. There are only three other buildings in WA to have achieved this standard: Central Park, QV1 and the soon to be built 100 St Georges Tec. The new building has achieved this rating because it maximises energy efficiency as well as work efficiency. The sustainability features incorporated in the new centre include energy saving devices such as solar passive architectural features and waste management strategies. Already Alcoa’s presence in the community has benefited many well known regional names such as Pinjarra Engineering, Spiers Earthworks & Plant Hire, the Murray House Resource Centre and Twigz Restaurant but it’s not all about long-term partnerships. Our recent growth has also provided opportunity to others such as Boral Concrete in Pinjarra, Auto One Pinjarra, Pinjarra Fresh Food Market and Pinjarra Newsagency. Through our procurement policy, we also provide opportunities for hundreds of small business contractors from agriculture, maintenance, cleaners and caterers, to real estate agents and transport firms. If larger companies from outside the local area win a contract, Alcoa encourages them to use local businesses. The new Pinjarra office will accommodate 100 people. Construction will begin in January 2007 and completed in early 2008.
