Institute for Child Health Research
The Alcoa Child Health Partnership is an initiative between Alcoa and the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research. Alcoa has contributed $120,000 per year over 3-years to support a new research program entitled “2005-2009 Determinants of child health and development: populations, partnerships, pathways and prevention." This program has five themes:
- Social, economic and psychological influences on child health and development
- Pathways to well being, resilience and developmental disorders
- Nutrition and growth particularly related to low birth weight, childhood obesity and mental health
- Infectious disease, its causes and influence on lifelong health problems
- Aboriginal health
Alcoa’s support will strengthen the capacity of Professor Fiona Stanley and the TICHR team to translate research results into action - facilitating greater advocacy to improve the future health and wellbeing of Australia’s children.
