Alcoa in Australia

Safe and Healthy Children & Families

Alcoa has one of the lowest lost workday injury rates in Australia.

Our safety performance is better than the mining, construction, agriculture, forestry and fishing, and even retail trade industries.

At Alcoa safety is not just a priority, it is a key value, and never compromised.

We believe that our safety expertise is a valuable asset that can be used to build capacity in the broader community.

By partnering with community organisations who also hold safety as a core value, we aim to educate the community about risk management and encourage the adoption of safe behaviours, ensuring those around us are living, working and playing safely.

One of Alcoa’s key community partners is the K.I.D.S Foundation (Kids in Dangerous Situations) which works to prevent childhood injuries and support recovery programs for young people who have suffered serious burn injuries.  Besides financial support, Alcoa and its employees are actively involved in safety field days, school safety clubs, mentoring and fund-raising.

In other partnerships that focus on child health and safety, Alcoa supports:

  • Mission Australia (through the Alcoa Foundation) in delivering initiatives that help 'at risk' young people realise their abilities, turn their lives around and reconnect into their communities

  • The Life Education program to deliver preventive drug education to primary schools in the Geelong area

  • The Peel Health Campus Foundation which is working to establish a paediatric ward at the Peel Health Campus.
