Alcoa in Australia

Bravo! Hero Ron Wortley

Pinjarra Mechanical Fitter, Ron Wortley, not only finds time to work and be a father but, like many Alcoa employees, he has dedicated time to volunteer work.

By volunteering more than 50 hours a year to sports Associations he is one of many WA Alcoa employees to apply for, and receive, US$250 for his nominated organisation through the Alcoa Foundation’s Bravo! program.

A father of three boys, Ron has been able to coach their teams and be rewarded for his efforts through Bravo. “I get to help the club and spend time with my kids,” Ron says.

Ron has now successfully applied over two years, first with Soccer and then with Baseball.

“We play Soccer in the winter and Baseball in the summer, so I applied for one each year”.

Ron is also a Mandurah City councillor for the North Ward. His role as a councillor is to work with other members of council to ensure that residents in his area are kept informed and have a voice.

“I represent the people of Mandurah and try to make decisions for the benefit of the majority,” he says.

Ron has been a Councillor for over three years. Many people question how he can work full time, be a family man, coach sports and be a councillor.

Ron says, “It’s important to have the support of everyone around you. I’m grateful for Alcoa’s support and encouragement with outside work.”

Ron is a great example of how easy it can be to volunteer your services to areas of the community that you feel need support.
