Five Year Mine Plan Consultation

Neighbours
The aim of Alcoa’s Five Year Mine Plan Consultation is to seek input from key stakeholders each year, on the proposed mine plans for the coming five year period.  The key stakeholder groups that are consulted as part of this process are current and future mine neighbours, and local government.

Each year during the development of the draft five year mine plan, Alcoa identifies any properties that may be impacted upon by the mining operations proposed for the coming five year period at each mine.  This assessment includes impacts caused by dust, noise, hydrology or visual amenity.  Alcoa writes to the owners of these properties to offer them the opportunity to meet with Alcoa staff to discuss our current and future mine plans and to come on a tour of the operations.

Local Government
Each year during the development of the draft five year mine plan, Alcoa identifies which local government authority boundaries the mining operations will be located within during the coming five year mine plan.  Alcoa offers each Shire Council a presentation of the five year mine plan, and invites the Councillors and Shire staff to come on a tour of the mining operations.

The purpose of these consultations is to:
  • Assist the Councillors and Shire staff to understand Alcoa’s mining operations and future mining plans, and any impacts that these mining plans may have on local communities and residents within the Shire;
  • Provide the Councillors and Shire staff with a contact at Alcoa to discuss any questions or concerns they have about Alcoa’s operations; and
  • Enable Alcoa to gain an understanding of any concerns that the Councillors or Shire staff may have about Alcoa’s operations.

Environmental Improvement Plan

Alcoa develops Environmental Improvement Plans (EIPs) in consultation with stakeholders.  These EIPs set clear targets for improvement and also outline the actions and initiatives which will be implemented in order to achieve those targets.
