Living in Alcoa Communities

Alcoa of Australia’s operations support around 6000 direct jobs.  Most of these jobs are located in regional Australia and most of our employees live in local communities surrounding our operations. 

76% of Alcoa jobs are based in Western Australia and 24% are based in Victoria.

Western Australia

Alcoa of Australia’s national corporate headquarters is located in the southern Perth suburb of Booragoon, close to the CBD.

Alcoa’s Kwinana Alumina Refinery, one of our three refineries in WA, is just a 30 minute drive from central Perth and is located on the Kwinana industrial strip. Kwinana employees generally live in and around Perth, Kwinana, Rockingham or Mandurah.

The well-established coastal city of Mandurah is:
  • 15 minutes drive from Alcoa’s Peel Regional Office (home to many of our corporate support services);
  • 25 minutes drive to the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery;
  • 45 minutes drive to the Wagerup Alumina Refinery;
  • a 1 hour drive to the Willowdale Bauxite Mine;
  • a 1 hour drive from the Huntly Bauxite Mine; and 
  • 45 minutes drive from Perth.

Pinjarra & Dwellingup
Dwellingup and Pinjarra are located in the Shire of Murray.
Dwellingup is on the door-step of the Huntly Bauxite Mine, while the town of Pinjarra is located just around the corner from the Pinjarra Alumina Refinery.

The Murray District offers a unique blend of rural and semi-rural lifestyle, while being conveniently located close to several large urban centres, including Mandurah.

Waroona & Harvey
The Shires of Waroona and Harvey include several towns such as Yarloop, Australind, and Cookernup.

These Shires surround the Wagerup Alumina Refinery and Willowdale Bauxite Mine.

The Shire of Harvey is famous for its relaxed lifestyle and boasts green pastures, rolling hills and pristine beaches. In contrast, Australind is a rapidly growing community and is a becoming a popular choice for new residents.

In the neighbouring Shire of Waroona, you will also find pristine beaches, unspoilt lakes of the coastal plains, fertile farmlands and peaceful jarrah forests.

The areas within Waronna and Harvey are just one and a half hours drive from Perth.

Alcoa’s Point Henry smelter is located in Geelong, just a 1 hour drive from Melbourne.

Geelong is a vibrant regional city featuring a stunning waterfront and a fabulous wine region on its doorstep. The Barwon River winds its way through the city.

Alcoa’s Anglesea Power Station and Coal Mine is located in the coastal community of Anglesea. The town of Anglesea, on the famous Great Ocean Road, is arguably one of the most picturesque towns in Australia.

Portland is located in south-west Victoria and is home to the Portland Aluminium smelter. In Portland you have the choice to live by the ocean in town, or on a farm.

New South Wales

Western Sydney is home to the Yennora rolling and recycling facility operated by Alcoa Australia Rolled Products.  It is located in the Sydney suburb of the same name  - Yennora.  It is the only Alcoa site in Australia (other than corporate offices) located within a capital city.

Yennora is 29kms west of the Sydney CBD, in the local government area of the City of Fairfield. The majority of the suburb of Yennora is dominated by an industrial zone.

In western Sydney there are an abundance of suburbs within an easy commute to Alcoa’s Yennora rolling and recycling operation.
