Environmental Improvement Plans (EIPs)
In 2006, Alcoa’s three refineries (Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup) and two mine-sites (Willowdale and Huntly) voluntarily produced Western Australia’s first public Environmental Improvement Plans (EIPs).
These EIPs are two year documents. The first plan covered the period 2006 – 2007 detailing improvement opportunities and targets for the refinery. Kwinana’s EIP was produced with input from two working groups, drawing members from our local communities, employees, local elected members and officers from local and state government departments.
After publication of the first EIP early 2006, the two groups combined and continued to review Kwinana’s performance against its targets and action plan.
A progressive report back was completed during 2006 and 2007, and now our second public EIP document is being produced for the period 2008 and 2009 following the same consultation process.
