The Wathaurong Co-op
In 2006 Alcoa and Greening Australia Victoria initiated the ‘Moolapio’ project, which focuses on five-hundred hectares of Alcoa’s land adjacent to Alcoa’s Point Henry operations (Victoria).

The project represents a variety of strategies for improving existing land management practices, restoring the local ecology and providing environmental learning opportunities for the community.

The Wathaurong Co-op has been involved in Moolapio through the naming of the project, which is the traditional name for the Point Henry area.

As the project develops, the Wathaurong Co-op will be involved in community engagement days, providing leadership to community members in the type of indigenous cultural sites that exist within the Point Henry area and how the community can best protect them.

In 2009/10 the Wathaurong Co-op will also provide cultural advice and activities in education classes for both primary and secondary children through the Moolapio VCAL program and Schools for the Environment Program.
