Dreams come true for Foundation student Rebecca Pearson

Rebecca Pearson is one of the Graham (Polly) Farmer Foundation’s – Follow the Dream success stories.
Rebecca’s dream was to graduate high school and work with children, and at the end of 2012 this dream was recognised. The Foundation supported Rebecca through high school by providing her with a quiet place at the Learning Centre to study after school and tutors to help her understand her course work.
The Foundation started supporting Rebecca when she began studying in Year 11 at John Tonkin College.
Right from the start, the program coordinator said Rebecca showed qualities of genuinely caring for other people, and those people less fortunate for her. She played an active role in the community through her involvement in Relay for Life, and volunteered at the local thrift shop during her holidays and on weekends.
During her two years at college, Rebecca’s grades steadily improved and at graduation she received the Positive Image Award – School Ambassador, the Lions’ Endeavour Award and the Noongar Mooditj Kaadadjiny Award.  Rebecca was also awarded Advanced Standing - Academic and Extra Curricular.
She also completed her Certificate ll in Children’s Services and gained paid employment at the Learning Centre, while she completed her traineeship. Once Rebecca graduated at the end of 2012, they then offered her full time employment. While still working at the Learning Centre, Rebecca has started her Diploma in Children’s Services.
