Connecting with Schools

Alcoa recognises the importance of education and the next generation, and connects with schools in a variety of ways across our communities.

Our Connecting with Schools education program reflects our ongoing commitment to the future. It encompasses a range of initiatives which expose children to quality learning opportunities.

Key components include:

  • ‘discover alcoa’
The discover alcoa program aligns education resources about Alcoa’s operations to key curriculum learning areas, including Science, Society and Environment, English and Maths.  There is also an ‘experiences’ component of the program, whereby students, teachers and other community members can visit one of Alcoa’s locations for a guided tour.

Access info and teacher resources here.

  • Bluearth
A children’s physical activity initiative run through our Bluearth partnership. This program aims to instil lifelong healthy habits and a love of physical activity into school kids – an ever important goal in the fight against childhood obesity.

  • Kids Foundation
An accident prevention program operated via partner organisation Kids Foundation. This initiative has the primary goal of creating a safer community, through focusing on injury prevention and increasing safety in workplaces, homes and schools.

  • Alcoa Schools Education Program (Sculpture by the Sea)
Our partnership with WA’s most prominent annual art exhibition assists artists who choose to sculpt with aluminium, and connects school children with art. The three week Alcoa Schools Education Program sees over 1400 school children attend sculpture workshops with some of the exhibition’s artists. The program gives children from our regional communities, and the metro area, a chance to express themselves through art (and learn about aluminium!).

  • Make an Impact Toolkits
Our Make an Impact Toolkits have been developed by Alcoa in partnership with our long-time sustainability partner Greening Australia.  They come from our employee and community greenhouse reduction program Make an Impact, and endeavour to help children and their families learn more about climate change and find ways to reduce their own footprint.
