Alcoa is now seeking the community’s input to help inform the development of a Revised Mine Closure Plan, and a Draft Master Plan for the power station freehold land.
Consultation and engagement with stakeholders is a priority in the development and approval process for the mine’s rehabilitation and closure and the decommissioning and remediation of the power station site. Engagement will continue to be a priority during the implementation phase once Alcoa has received regulatory approval.
Alcoa’s aim is to ensure its rehabilitation and closure of the mine site and power station is developed in conjunction with community and government stakeholders. Once the detail is finalised, it will be submitted to regulators for approval.
Alcoa is conducting broad engagement activities about the future of the Alcoa site, inclusive of the continuation of the Alcoa Community Consultation Network (CCN), along with other public activities and an online engagement platform.
The Anglesea Futures Community Conversations Series, coordinated by the Victorian Department of Environment Land Water and Planning (DELWP) and Surf Coast Shire Council, will provide further input for consideration.
Alcoa Community Consultation Network
The Alcoa Community Consultation Network (CCN) is a consultative group that is comprised of Alcoa employees, local residents, Surf Coast Shire representatives, community groups and EPA Victoria.
The CCN has operated since 2001 and is an opportunity for two-way communication regarding issues that are important to Alcoa and the local community.
Alcoa and the CCN have been working hard to strengthen this community engagement process over the years. Together, we focus to ensure attendance is an appropriate representation of the local community and that the dialogue remains relevant and reflects both the interests of Alcoa and the Anglesea community.
We report regularly on Environment, Health & Safety, Operations and Social matters, and other important issues through these CCN meetings. Meeting snapshots are available to download in the right column of this page.
Alcoa acknowledges and thanks those members of the Anglesea community who have engaged with us through the CCN and other forums over many years.
The next CCN meeting is scheduled for Monday 10 October at 6pm at the Anglesea Senior Citizens Club, McMillan Street Anglesea. All welcome. Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org.
