Community Capacity and Resilience

Economic success depends on a region’s ability to attract and retain a talented workforce.  By investing in the quality of place – including community infrastructure, arts and culture, as well as a strong non-profit sector – we help build capacity of communities to ensure resilience of communities and give them a competitive edge in the global economy.

Geelong Performing Arts Centre (GPAC)
2011 marks the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Alcoa and GPAC. The longevity of the partnership has been recognised by the Australian Business Arts Foundation at both state and national levels.  It is an extraordinary story of arts and business working together towards a common goal.

The partnership has not only survived, but flourished, over three decades. It began with the opening of the performing arts centre in 1981 when Alcoa’s support was acknowledged with the naming rights to the dance studios and courtyard.

Now in 2011 Alcoa continues as the naming rights sponsor of GPAC’s annual theatre season, ensuring accessibility to the arts, diversity in programming and unsurpassed program quality.  The Alcoa Theatre Season is an exciting and exhilarating year of entertaining and thought provoking shows including nine diverse, high quality theatre productions from some of the country's most renowned companies.

GPAC and Alcoa are a shining example of arts and business growing together to achieve a shared vision of arts for everyone.
