Noise monitoring
Significant work already performed at the Wagerup Refinery has resulted in an overall noise reduction at the refinery and the immediate surroundings. An extensive noise reduction program has been implemented and is continuing to target the elimination of total noise sources from within the refinery. A complaints management procedure has been followed since 1984. Early complaints of noise related to some excessive overall noise levels, but primarily identified the presence of tones in the noise emissions as the major concern. Alcoa has also engaged acoustic consultants who use an acoustic model to predict noise emissions from the proposed expansion at the Wagerup refinery. The noise model developed for the proposed expansion was independently reviewed.
