Community Consultation

Alcoa aspires to be the best company in the world and to do this we must be the best neighbour in each community where we operate. Alcoa is committed to building capacity within our own operations and the communities in which we work to create sustainable operations and sustainable and stronger communities with a shared future. Stronger communities create opportunities for people and organisations to work together to bring about economic, social and environmental benefits for all of us.

To help the plant achieve its aims it is essential Point Henry consults with the community.

In 1993, a group was formed to help develop plans for Point Henry’s wetlands and land surrounding the plant. Through the establishment of this group a regular forum was provided for any individual or community organisation to raise concerns they had in respect to the environment. This group consulted with Point Henry in the formation of the plant’s Environment Improvement Plans.

More recently, a consultative group made up of local residents, local government, industry neighbour representatives, environment groups and the EPA was established to form a Community Advisory Board. This broader group meets to discuss a broad range of issues and opinions relating to all aspects of Point Henry’s operations.

For more information on the Community Advisory Board or any community matter relating to Point Henry, contact the plant’s Community Relations Officer, Brendan Foran, on 5245 1314.
