Sustainability Framework
We aim to achieve a net long-term benefit to society by simultaneously achieving:

  • Environmental performance
  • Social contribution
  • Financial performance based on a foundation of robust corporate governance and accountability.

Economic, social, environmental, health and safety sustainability is the key to Alcoa's future. To achieve sustainability we are using a Business Sustainability Framework and Sustainability Principles to define how we operate, including actions we take, partnerships we form and the choices we make in our business.

The framework and principles will provide the guidelines to make decisions about the Pinjarra Efficiency Upgrade. We are seeking community input to help us determine the best way of achieving these principles and therefore sustainability with this project.

Examples of how we can incorporate the principles into our thinking and actions are as follows:
  • Involving the community - seeking feedback and input into our plans and ensuring communication processes meet the needs of stakeholders.
  • Cleaner production – implementing new technology to achieve more efficient use of resources and to reduce key emissions.
  • Long term economic benefit – ensuring the refinery remains cost competitive in the world market to secure future investment, employment and training opportunities.
