Telethon Institute for Child Health Research – “From the Ground Upâ€
Since 2005 Alcoa has partnered with the Telethon Institute which is the only dedicated child health research institute in Western Australia and is led by 2003 Australian of the Year, Professor Fiona Stanley.
The Institute’s key areas of research include childhood cancers, asthma and allergies, mental health, indigenous health, birth defects and obesity.
In 2008 Alcoa and the Institute began a new three year partnership with a focus on indigenous health and wellbeing in the southwest of Western Australia. This will be conducted by the indigenous research department Kulunga.
