This key role reports to the Vice President, Manufacturing Excellence & Global Support, Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals, and the incumbent is expected to describe best practices in the efficient use of raw materials in the refining plants. In this role, you will have a significant understanding of the different technologies in the refineries, and you will possess expert knowledge of processes impacting the use of energy, bauxite, lime, caustic soda and process chemicals.
The role demands that the incumbent is responsible for:
- Working in conjunction with plant technical resources to determine gaps in best practice implementation and ensure that plans exist to close them
- Setting up a system for monitoring ongoing progress towards gap closure
- Reporting progress to AWA Operations Management
- Representing the technical community on Procurement Councils related to Raw materials
- Developing protocols for self assessment by the refineries relating to efficient use of raw materials, with the protocols forming the basis of refinery reviews
As the successful applicant, you will be a recognised expert in hydrometallurgical processes, and be an experienced Technical Manager. Additionally, you will provide leadership in all areas across the role, and will be a talented communicator and analytical thinker who can demonstrate a drive for excellence. Experience in the Bayer process will be an advantage.
