Boyd Mueller
Vice President - Research and Development

Dr. Boyd A. Mueller was appointed Vice President of Research and Development in February 2013.  In this role, Boyd directs APP’s research and development programs across Aerospace, IGT, and Structural Castings and Specialty Products business segments.  Boyd’s demonstrated leadership in the development and implementation of advanced technologies has been an invaluable asset as we continue to develop and improve our products and processes.
Most recently, Boyd served as Director of APP’s Operhall Research Center in Whitehall, leading strategic analysis of markets, application of technologies, and implementation of automated manufacturing processes. His work has contributed to developing market and customer technology roadmaps and establishing collaborative relationships with customers such as General Electric, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney on joint development programs. To further APP’s market advantage, Boyd has leveraged academic and national laboratory resources to complement APP’s industry-leading engineering team.
Boyd also held the role of Aerospace Sector Technical Director, leading the technical activities of six manufacturing facilities in APP. He joined the company in 1991 after working at Battelle Memorial Institute and Caterpillar.   
Boyd holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from Michigan Technological University, and master’s and doctorate degrees in metallurgical engineering from the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
