Forged Specialty Wheels—September 2008
Dear Colleague:

Thank you for your interest in the September issue of Alcoa Wheel News. The lead article this month focuses on a significant launch of new wheels for full size trucks into the aftermarket. Consumers have requested full size truck fitments and the Alcoa aftermarket wheel group delivers. This launch is also significant because it signals the first time that Dura-Bright® technology has been available in the automotive aftermarket. Note that forge tooling for many of these aftermarket wheels may now be available for your OEM wheel programs.

Also in this issue, Alcoa partners with a designer from Hot Wheels for an exciting project vehicle, some recent Protruck competition news and a review of our European wheel operations by Automotive Engineering International. I hope you enjoy learning about some of the latest projects that the Alcoa Wheels team has been working on.

Full Size Truck Wheels Set To Launch into the Aftermarket
The Alcoa aftermarket wheel group is readying a product catalog expansion to include three new wheel lines for full size trucks.

Discovery Series, Revolver Series and Xtreme Series are now launching in 20"x9", 8-lug fitments for current and late model full size trucks, including Chevrolet and GMC 2500/3500, Dodge 2500/3500 and Ford F-250/350. This new launch includes the first application of Dura-Bright® technology to the aftermarket. Each wheel will also be available in premium chrome finish.

"Dura-Bright® technology has been recognized for its ease of maintenance benefits in the commercial vehicle and heavy truck segments for many years and more recently with leading Global automotive OEMs. We are now able to offer this patented innovation for the first time directly to owners of full size trucks," stated Steve Carlson, Director-Global Marketing, Alcoa Automotive Wheels.

Discovery Series features a rounded spoke design to compliment the appearance of full size trucks used to tow recreational vehicles, including large boats and RVs.

Revolver Series, with a split-spoke design, will appeal to full size truck owners who are looking for a forged aluminum wheel to compliment the other appearance upgrades on their trucks.

Xtreme Series is ideal for full size truck owners looking for an aggressive wheel appearance for rugged use.

Look for Discovery Series, Revolver Series and Xtreme Series wheels, along with the entire Alcoa aftermarket wheels portfolio, available through select wheel retailers and auto dealers nationwide later this month.

Alcoa Teams Up With Hot Wheels Designer for Project Vehicle
Since 1969, Larry Wood, the Chief Designer for Mattel Toys - Hot Wheels Division, has been the driving force behind the success of Hot Wheels - the number one vehicle property in the United States.

When it came to designing his personal truck project, a big-block Chevy powered 1938 Ford COE (Cab Over Engine) truck, 19.5" polished Alcoa wheels were the only choice. "I wanted the classic big-rig look and image. Only these wheels were ever considered. The quality of the forged wheel construction and bright polishing catches everyone's eyes. The Made in the USA quality was also a major factor in my design to use these wheels," he said. For this project, Brian Thomas, Marketing Communications Specialist for Alcoa Wheel and Transportations Products and a team of product fulfillment specialists, worked to see that logistics and scheduling in meeting the finished construction deadlines were met.

When Larry is designing the cars and trucks for his Hot Wheels line, he is always pushing the boundaries of design. This 3-year construction project was a little different. Only the timeless and classic elements of all the parts that went into this truck's design were ever considered. "Of all the wheel choices that are available on the world-wide market, still I think you can't beat the Alcoa Classic wheel," Larry said.

This truck and a still-under-construction matching trailer will be hitting the highways to many of the major truck, street rod and other industry shows soon. Featured articles are planned for this truck also in several of the consumer automotive magazines.

"It is certainly a pleasure to work with such a creative and talented designer like Larry "Mr. Hot Wheels" Wood. He is the icon automotive designer that has designed more cars and trucks than anyone else in the world. Through his creative visions and talent, Hot Wheels has become synonymous with the American culture. And, because of the Classic polished Alcoa wheels, they certainly made the final and most visible element of this project come together like no other wheel design can," Thomas said.

With Larry Wood designing future Hot Wheel projects, you may even see his 1938 Ford COE as a Hot Wheels in your local store.
Voss Motorsports Victorious on Alcoa Wheels at Pikes Peak
The 86th annual running of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb brought teams together from around the globe to compete for top honors. After three days of exhaustive testing and a full day of tight competitive racing, one Protruck team stood at the top of the mountain with the quickest time to the summit.

Congratulations to Jason Voss and James East of Voss Motorsports. Voss completed the 156-turn course up to the 14,110 foot summit in fourteen minutes and eight seconds. The team made the run on 17" Pro Series wheels by Alcoa.

"Pikes Peak serves as an ideal environment to demonstrate the strength and durability of our forged aluminum wheels," said Brian Thomas, Marketing Communications Specialist, Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products. "Voss was in complete control all week long, from the first practice through the finish at the summit."

Ivan "Ironman" Stewart visits Alcoa Cleveland Works Plant
Alcoa invited a legend to visit Cleveland Works on Tuesday, July 29th. Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, winner of 17 Baja 500's and a member of the Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, met with Alcoans and displayed a Protruck competition vehicle.

As the Official Wheel of the Baja Protruck Off Road Race Series, Alcoa enjoys the opportunity to demonstrate the strength and durability of forged aluminum wheels in grueling competition. For his visit, Ivan Stewart brought his personal Protruck for Alcoa employees to get up close and personal.

Alcoans stopped by throughout the day for a signed autograph from Ivan Stewart, to get a closer look at the trucks or just admire the shiny Alcoa wheels. Ivan also had a chance to tour the forging plant and meet with Alcoa executives.
