Why are there special wheels for the bus industry?
Alcoa makes wheels for both bus mounting and truck mounting systems. The axle suppliers have always supplied different mounting for transit buses.

What is the difference between European cap nuts and US cap nuts?
European wheels with 32.87mm boltholes can use a sleeved cap nut instead of replacing the studs to change over to Alcoa wheels. Alcoa part numbers for these wheels are 886510 and 896510.

Are there truck type wheels in the bus market?
Yes, some wheels used in the truck market are used in the bus industry. Know what type of mounting system, bolt circle, hub bore size, bolt hole diameter and wheel sizes/load ratings of your wheel system before retro fitting.

How do you keep these wheels clean?
Buy Dura-Bright® wheels and you will never have to polish again.

I want to change to the super single/wide base/flotation wheels and I am going to use a 385-size tire. What size wheel would I use?
22.5 x 12.25

If I have a Mack Dump truck with an 18,000 lb axle and want to go to a wide base wheel on the

steer what wheel would I need to use?
If you have a hub piloted system you would use the 82362 (22.5 x 12.25); on a stud piloted use the 823050. This is the exception because of clearance issues.

What does the A on the wide base wheel part number mean?
This application is for a steer axle wheel only.

Why do you have two wheels listed in the hub piloted specifications sheet that are 24.5 x 8.25 and 22.5 x 8.25?
The 885600 and 985600 are wheels that are used in a harsh or rugged environment. They should be spec'ed on your truck if you are in those kinds of conditions. The wheels are load rated higher for the conditions.

What size wheels do you offer for my motorhome?
We have several sizes starting at 16" and going as large as 24.5"

What kind of designs do you offer for my motorhome?
If your motorhome has 16" wheels then we have two to three designs. If you have a 19.5" wheel, we have only one design called the classic. If you have 22.5" or 24.5", we offer only the Classic, but there are other designs available to you at one of our OEM dealers.

How do I know if you offer a wheel for my motorhome?
If you have an Accuride steel wheel on now then you could get the part number and give our technical department a call and they will be able to tell you if we can help. You can also measure the bolt circle and hub bore and how many lugs and we can tell you if we can help. You need to know the mounting system: either hub piloted or ball seat.

Why do I want Alcoa Aluminum wheels and not wheel simulators?
These are the reasons why: Simulators will rust over time and not keep their look. Simulators keep the heat in the wheel system not dissipating to the atmosphere. The costs are very similar. With simulators you don't know what is happening to the wheel and cap nuts. The wheel could have a crack or a broken/missing cap nut. You will also maintain good looks with aluminum wheels.
