Alcoa Announces Winners of 2013 Core Carrier Awards
Knoxville, Tennessee – (BUSINESS WIRE) — April (14), 2014 – Alcoa (NYSE: AA) has announced the winners of its 2013 North America Core Carrier Awards, which recognize the critical carriers who help ensure supplies get to Alcoa’s facilities when needed and products get to Alcoa’s customers on time.
“We have a passion to recognize and reward our top carriers who are vital components of our supply chain,” said Ed Hamorsky, Alcoa’s Director of Global Transportation and Logistics. “This program continues to drive alignment and trust between Alcoa and the core carriers that serve our plants. Many of the cost reduction and sourcing successes that Alcoa has realized over the past few years have been the result of creative solutions offered by our core carriers.”
The annual awards, which are in their ninth year, measure Alcoa’s core carriers against seven key metrics including overall volume; shipment acceptance percentage; scope and sustainability; and data accuracy. To be eligible, carriers must be under Alcoa contract and meet volume minimums for at least three months of the year.
Alcoa’s 13 Tier 1 carriers transported 50% of Alcoa’s North America motor carrier business in 2013. A company who has been a longtime innovator and exceptional service provider, CMI Freight-Trans, of Chicago, Illinois, was recognized as Alcoa’s leading intermodal distribution company, earning their sixth consecutive award. TMC Transportation, of Des Moines, Iowa, secured their seventh carrier of the year award in the Tier 1 flatbed service category. Providing superior truckload services between the U.S. and Canada and within the provinces is Remorquage St-Michel, Inc. of St-Michel, Canada, who maintained their first place position by winning the Canadian Tier 1 carrier of the year award for a seventh straight year. USA Truck, of Van Buren, Arkansas continued their success from 2012 by capturing a second consecutive title as Alcoa’s Tier 1 carrier of the year for commendable dry van service in North America.
All four of Alcoa’s core ocean carriers received recognition awards for their service during 2013. However, for the third consecutive year, Hapag-Lloyd, of Hamburg, Germany, captured Alcoa’s ocean carrier of the year award for extraordinary export and import container service for North America.
In the Tier 2 truckload category, 10 carriers managed 30% of Alcoa’s freight in 2013. After four years in the program, Fraley & Schilling, Inc., of Rushville, Indiana, was a first-time winner in the flat bed category for unmatched service. For the dry van category, Oberg Freight Company, of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, continues to reign as the champion by winning their fourth consecutive award.
Prior to the awards presentation, Michael Baird, National Fleet Sales Manager, Alcoa Wheel and Transportation Products, unveiled Alcoa’s Ultra ONE™ wheel with MagnaForce™ alloy. The new alloy combined with Ultra ONE technology produce the lightest heavy-duty truck wheel in the world.
