Alcoa and Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) teamed up to explore technology solutions for COMAC’s new 190-seat passenger jet, the C919. The two companies are looking at advanced aluminum structural concepts, designs and alloys to help COMAC create a globally competitive, high-performance, fuel efficient aircraft.
The C919 will be the largest passenger jet produced in China, the fastest growing aviation market in the world. The C919 is expected to take its first flight in 2014 and enter service in 2016.
Aluminum’s appealing characteristics – lightweight, fuel efficient, sustainable -- are some of the reasons global manufacturers select aluminum as their material of choice for new aircraft.
Alcoa is well positioned to support global manufacturers with their next generation aircraft, providing them with innovative solutions for aerospace structures, fasteners and turbine components.
