Chevy Malibu Maxx Liftgate
The eye-catching style of the Chevy Malibu Maxx is a beauty that's more than skin deep. Its unique liftgate is manufactured with Alcoa aluminum via GM's Quick Plastic Forming (QPF) process. This advanced forming process enables the GM to extend complex styling features usually available only on luxury vehicles to higher-volume vehicles like the Malibu Maxx.
Alcoa has been collaborating with GM on QPF for several years through a joint development agreement focused on improving the alloy used for the QPF process as well as other process improvements involved in the manufacture of QPF panels.
Our collaboration with GM on the QPF process has provided GM a greater flexibility to create body panels with eye-catching shapes and a greater complexity of forms at production volumes.
