The construction of a 170,000–square–foot office building in downtown Denver’s historic warehouse district left architects from The Neenan Company facing a daunting challenge. How could they create a massive, new structure that blends into a historic environment without overshadowing the existing, smaller warehouses?
The solution was to mix traditional brick facing with 4 mm Reynobond® composite panels to break up the scale of the building and significantly reduce material costs. The top two floors were clad entirely in Reynobond to further lighten the structure’s appearance and keep it from dominating the warehouses around it. While Alcoa Architectural Products provided the Reynobond® panels, the framing for the windows and panels was provided by Kawneer, an Alcoa company. This ensured perfect color match. The result is a modern office building that fits its historical context, while pleasing — and deceiving — the eye.
