Located on one of the nation’s most prestigious streets — directly across from one if its most celebrated hotels, The Waldorf Astoria — the former Colgate-Palmolive building at 300 Park Avenue in Manhattan presented a unique challenge.
Owner Tishman Speyer wanted to upgrade and reskin the existing, watertight curtain wall without ever closing or disturbing the interior of the building. And they wanted the project completed in just nine months.
Using 4 mm fire-rated Reynobond® Aluminum Composite Panels, architect Moed de Armas & Shannon and installer IDA International were able to create a custom, pressure-equalized rain screen system using a structural glazed aluminum frame attached to the existing curtain wall. The Reynobond® panels not only eliminated the need for a caulked joint, but provided superior color consistency and extreme flatness. After setting pins over the entire structure, panels were installed at a rate of 100 a day — exceeding the client’s expectations.
