In service since 1948, the Research and Development Center at Kraft Foods’ North Pilot Plant has been the birthplace of some of the world’s most popular brands, including Kraft Deluxe Process Cheese Slices, Miracle Whip and Cracker Barrel Natural Cheese. Architect STR Partners was contracted to expand and renovate the Center in order to align the many functions of the entire produce development cycle in one location.
The facility was designed to provide an environment conducive to creativity, with open spaces, abundant natural light and minimal use of interior walls. 77,000 square feet of Reynobond was used in conjunction with glass to create horizontal stripes across the facade —which also features open spandrels to reflect the open-ended thinking associated with the company’s product development team.
The project added approximately 220,000 square feet of new construction to the existing complex.
