Nestled in a wooded, sloping site in the foothills of the Chugach Mountains, South Anchorage High School presents a forward-looking attitude that visually blends with its environment.
One of the building’s exterior materials, Reynobond ® ACM, was selected for its durability, texture, color and ease of installation. The upper stories were clad in a combination of textured and flat profile metal panels in a muted green, allowing the building to recede into the landscape. To provide contrast and a high-tech edge, the architects specified 20,000 square feet of Reynobond® ACM to identify building entries and to clad the exterior façade of the science classrooms. Mercury Metals of Vancouver, British Columbia fabricated the panels, which were installed by Arctic Glazing of Anchorage, Alaska, in a dry joint rainscreen system.
