Norcross, GA: Alcoa Architectural Products (AAP), the leading manufacturer of exterior and interior cladding and corporate identity solutions for commercial construction, announces that Reynobond® Zinc Composite Material (ZCM) has received a “Class A” rating from the Fire and Technology Department of the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio, TX. By meeting the requirements of the International Fire Code, the heritage metal material can be used on high-rise buildings in areas where the local building code requires that all cladding materials used above 40 feet meet the NFPA 285 and ASTM E84 standards set in the international building code.
The “Class A” fire rating enhances the international appeal of the ZCM product that evolved from Alcoa’s on-going partnership with RHEINZINK® America, Inc. Reynobond ZCM, which is comprised of two RHEINZINK titanium zinc alloy skins bonded to a fire resistant thermoplastic core, is produced with 0.5 mm and 0.7 mm thick skins. The tests were also performed on the 0.7mm thick skins so the “Class A” rating applies to both thicknesses.
Reynobond ZCM has the aesthetic quality of zinc and the strength and extreme formability for which Reynobond materials are known. The natural blue-gray, pre-weathered finish develops a natural carbonate patina over time, aging in the same way as traditional zinc materials. However, the ZCM panels can be roll-formed, shaped, bent, routed, punched or cut to achieve small radius curves, reverse curves, angles and other shapes – providing architects with the ability to use the heritage material to create dramatic designs that cannot be fabricated with heavy plate or sheet material without buckling or oil canning. The 0.5mm skins will also provide the fabricator with fabrication benefits.
